Just ahead of Doval's visit, France submitted its final price offer for the Rafale Marine jets. This offer reportedly includes a substantial price reduction following intense negotiations between the two nations123. The deal encompasses 22 single-seater and 4 twin-seater variants, intended for deployment on India's INS Vikrant aircraft carrier and various naval bases.

The acquisition of these jets is vital for enhancing India's maritime strike capability, especially given the current shortage of aircraft within the Indian Navy. The Rafale Marine jets are expected to replace the aging fleet of Russian-origin MiG-29K fighters, marking a significant upgrade in India's naval aviation capabilities.

As part of the negotiations, India has requested the integration of indigenous systems into the Rafale jets, including the Uttam radar and various indigenous weaponry such as Astra missiles and Rudram anti-radiation missiles. However, these integrations may extend the timeline for delivery by up to eight years and could incur additional costs.
